Our middle school is one of nine middle schools in our district. Our middle school is one of the largest middle school with a population of about 1,400 students. We have diverse population with students from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. There are twelve different languages spoken at our school with students coming from eight or more different ethnic backgrounds in attendance. Our district's mission is to provide a learning community that challenges ALL students to realize their greatest
potential. We work hard to strive towards this goal with all our students at our middle school. We have a staff of close to 60 credentialed teachers who strive to provide quality instruction to every student.
My Project
The librarian collaborates with curriculum teachers to instruct students on various skills that support the Common Core Standards. Students are taught by the librarian on important skills such as how to use appropriate research sites to find and synthesize information to support curricular assignments. Collaboration among student in groups are encouraged and supported.
The portability of the Chromebooks allow students to easily gather in different areas of the library in smaller groups. The Chromebook's wireless capability provides students with access to the Internet and to research sites used in the library instruction. The Chromebook's ability to record video and audio provides student the current tools they need to produce quality presentations of the information they learned during their research process. Students will use the Chromebook as an important tool to support their learning process.
The library has no budget specifically assigned for technology hardware purchases.
Chromebooks are the easiest and most inexpensive way to add additional hardware for the library, for use by students, to support student learning. The Chromebook can also be provided for student check OUT for those students without a computer at home. Chromebooks in the library is an important tool students need to apply all the vital skills they learned in the library to be successful 21st Century students.
