We are a high school video production classroom and program. A typical day in our class might involve anything from filming a short documentary to editing a weekly school news broadcast. Students are always active and engaged in learning to become future filmmakers and broadcasters.
We are located in Southern California.
My students are a diverse bunch, but are united in their hopes of becoming future film directors, editors, cinematographers and broadcasters. Having a program like this available at our high school has opened so many doors to our students over the years. We currently have about a dozen grads in film schools, and a number who have gone on and currently work in the film and television industry. All of them got their start in our program.
My Project
We have a busy, loud classroom. With headphones that actually work properly, my students will be able to clearly hear to monitor audio while they film with our cameras. Equally important, they will be able to listen to and play back audio - both voice and music - that they create and edit during the projects we carry out during the course of the school year. Every class that enters our classroom at all 4 high school grade levels will be using this equipment.
If each computer and camera is equipped with a set of fully functioning headphones, all of our students will be able to fully participate in classroom activities and projects.
We currently don't have enough working sets of headphones for our lab, and our old ones are on their last legs with many of our current headphones only working in one ear or the other. This equipment will have a big impact.
