My Students

"...For children, play is serious learning. Play is the work of childhood." -Fred Rogers. We want our students to become serious learners. We want to foster that learning through child-directed and process-oriented projects.

We are a second grade class at a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) school in Texas.

All 40 students are involved in daily science and engineering experiences. In second grade, we introduce the scholars to the engineering design process and help them become confident and creative thinkers. We want to give the scholars experiences with materials and systems that help them expand their ideas about the world around them.

My Project

We are in need of quality materials to add to our classroom Tinker Lab. We are asking for the Joinks, Keva blocks, K'Nex, Tinkertoys, and Magformers to use to express our creativity. They will be using the materials for a variety of engineering design projects that involve building and testing materials. My scholars will use these materials to show their creativity through building, experimenting, and tinkering.

This project is important because these materials provide my scholars the tools they need to have ample opportunities to explore the world around them.

These scholars need to continue to build, experiment, and tinker to become creative and confident thinkers.
