Last year Ms. Foley's Fantastic Friends had 6 Kindles we used during our day. They used them during reading and math centers to grow in their learning. Sadly, 3 of them broke. I'd love to see them replaced for my new class. Research shows game-based learning is the best way to learn.
I teach 24-26 very active, adorable kinders each year in my portable classroom.
They are eager to learn but need close supervision and monitoring. Some students come in not knowing what their name looks like. Some come in knowing all their letters and letter sounds. The discrepancy between students is vast and therefore, teaching them at their own pace becomes tricky.
My Project
During our literacy hour we form small groups. One group works with the teacher, one works on literacy games, one listens to stories at our listening center, and the last one gets to get a tablet, find a quiet spot, and work on what they need. Some students are working on letter identification, some are working on letter sounds, and some are working on their sight words. The tablets allow them to work independently and successfully. My students need three Nexus 7 tablets with chargers and cases.
The tablets will allow all students to differentiate their learning and grow in the areas they need.
Whether by using a letter-based identification game or a multiplication math game, each student will get to grow at their own personal level. It will keep students focused during small group reading time which will benefit all students by making the classroom quieter.
