My students are eager to learn 21st century skills but need tools to do so. By the end of the year, one goal is for all students to understand and use technology systems. Due to my students' variety of learning styles, the biggest challenge is not having the technology resources in my classroom.
My first grade students come from a variety of diverse backgrounds.
They love to sing, dance, and explore. My students have a variety of learning styles but are all eager and excited to learn and lead. The way they learn best is through a hands-on, project-based approach.
Our elementary school has recently become a Leadership School. My students keep track of their individual goals in a variety of ways including Google Classroom, Leadership Notebooks, Data Boards, and meeting with their learning partners.
All of my students are unique. Whether it is reading, writing, math, art, or sports in which they excel, they all look for ways to be leaders and shine in our classroom. My students are social beings and synergize to learn from each other. While each student has their own interests, they welcome the input of others and work in a variety of cooperative groups throughout the day.
My Project
With mini iPads in protective cases in the hands of students, the possibilities for learning and innovation are endless. The iPads will be used across the curriculum to integrate 21st century skills like creativity, innovation, communication, collaboration, critical thinking, problem solving, research, and digital citizenship. In reading, this project will allow students access to an endless amount of literature. In science and social studies, it will allow students to learn from experts through online conferencing, emails, and research. Also, it will allow students to "travel" the world to places we aren't able to visit like the ocean, African Safari, and mountains to name a few. In math, it will open the door to real-life problem-solving. Finally, in writing, students will be able to research topics for informational writing and publish their work digitally. Digital publications will include audio recording, videos, slide shows and more! This project will help prepare students for the future.
With iPads in their hands, my students will be able to digitally publish writing, conduct research, talk to experts in the field, share projects with the world, and collaborate with kids everywhere.
This project will enhance the education of my students by giving them the tools to learn technology systems that will help them become independent, lifelong learners. Please help my students open the door to the world!
