Learning to use technology to accomplish our goals in first grade is great, but using technology without wasting class time is AMAZING!
We have 24 super-charged amazing pupils for most of the day in the heart of the Silicon Valley.
We mainstream a student for Language Arts and add 2 additional students during math time too! Our students speak many different home languages and love sharing about themselves and their families.
They use technology like iPads to practice math, making projects, or using the interactive white board daily. These students are competitive and try hard in everything they do. Our school is located in the hills of San Jose, California.
My Project
We use Stump Stands with our iPad minis to keep them on the table, within easy reach, but we do not have enough for the entire class. The stands keep the iPads up off the table, preventing glue and other first grade style disasters.
When the iPad minis are in the stand, the stylus can be there too, keeping it ready for adding details to our work. When we are trying to draw or add details to our projects in apps like “ShowMe!” or “BookCreator” we want our work to be excellent. Using a stylus helps us with our fine motor control and we need just a few more for a full class set.
Being able to have our tools close at hand makes them a true part of our class materials.
Reaching for the iPad stylus will become as second nature as reaching for a pen. By nurturing this technology connection my students will be able to create projects to share their learning with a wider audience.
