My Students

Did you know that to the 900 hours that a child spends in school each year, they spend 7,800 outside of school (Trelease, 2013)? That's a lot of valuable time that a parent could be utilizing to foster a love of learning! I want to give them the resources to do just this!

I teach in a Title I public school in a small town in Missouri.

Located off of I-70 there are a lot of families that come and go. I serve anywhere from 45-65 students a year, grades K-6. Many of my students come from single parent homes in a low SES. Many also receive free or reduced meals and participate in the Harvester's backpack program.

My Project

Your money will be going towards purchasing 1 parent involvement literacy kit, 1 picnic for parents thematic kit, and 2 resource books that will provide me with information to give to parents. One is on picture books to share with children and the other is developmentally appropriate practices for young children. I will use these resources to plan and implement workshops with parents so they have the tools and resources to ensure their child's academic success! My goal is to connect with parents and show them how to foster a love of learning within their children. These materials will give me the resources to share with them. They are engaging and inviting so parents are willing to participate and kids will love them also!

This gracious gift would be utilized in a way that could change a child's life forever!

Teaching parents how to read aloud to their children not only fosters a love of reading but it also builds a vocabulary that will ensure a child's future academic success!
