My Students

Are you looking to change the lives of first grade engineers? My first grade students are studying "Structures Around the World" and want to put ideas like vertical height, foundation, balance, symmetry and asymmetry, and forces to work. The challenge they face is they have no materials to build with.

My first grade students are eager to use their creativity and imagination to show off their knowledge about engineering through project-based activities.

These wonderful children come to STEM with smiles on their faces and leave with new ideas they've acquired through following the Keys to STEM: We respect each other, try our best, are a team, learn from our our mistakes, and create and celebrate each other's success. They attend a small, public school, located in a caring village along the Grand River.

My Project

The most important aspect of STEM is allowing students time to create, evaluate, and then redesign projects. When it comes to putting their engineering minds to work, it is necessary to provide engaging materials that allow them to build in correlation to our areas of study. What better tool to use when discovery structures around the world than LEGOs! Students will have, with your help, 10" X 10" building plates, boxes of LEGOs "Bricks and More Builders of Tomorrow" sets, and containers to properly store them! These tools will allow students to demonstrate their knowledge in vertical height, symmetry, asymmetry, balance, foundation, bridges, and so much more, as well as explore measurement!

With the emphasis on expecting our children to excel in math and the sciences, we have to provide them with valuable opportunities to generate critical and imaginative thinking, projects that promote understanding of key concepts across several disciplines, and how to work collaboratively.

These tools will provide these opportunities to our young students! Thank you!
