My Students

CRASH! Our music program needs some new cymbals. Founded in 1928, our band has been a bright spot at our school for over 80 years. The struggle to keep our equipment in good order and up to date has been an ongoing challenge. Your donation can help us meet that challenge.

Our music program serves grades 6-12 in a tiny little school district in Northern California.

The enrollment at the high school is generally around 400-450 and the middle school usually tops out at 375-400. Over 50% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunch and many of our families struggle financially. Our students understand the value of a dollar and appreciate every penny we raise in our fundraising efforts. Our school district was named one of the top 5 most diverse school districts in the country in a recent news article. The music program offers a wide range of courses that reflect that diversity including concert band, musical theater, drum line, marching band, jazz band, and contemporary music. The music program has always been a bright spot in our school, a very popular program, and consistently wins awards at local and state band competitions. Nearly 20% of the middle school and over 25% of the high school students participate in one of our music classes.

My Project

The crash cymbal is used in most all of our performing groups such as marching band, concert band, drum line, our school musical, and sometimes even jazz band. A new pair of cymbals gives any ensemble a little more punctuation and much more punch. They also provide a nice, shiny visual "wow-factor" for the audience. Our students work very hard, spending many hours in the practice room and even more time during after school rehearsals. They deserve to have quality equipment that reflects their efforts and rewards their hard work. One of the things I enjoy most about our students is how much they appreciate good gear. They learn how important it is to care for and maintain our equipment, so they can sound their best and keep our resources in good shape for future students to enjoy.

I have been a teacher for almost 20 years and have taught at a variety of schools throughout the country.

I can say with all honesty I've never taught a more deserving group of young musicians with such sparse resources. It has been inspiring to watch the district, community, and administration work so hard to provide for this amazing group of students, but it's not enough. We need your help to continue our tradition of excellence and get the gear that these students so desperately deserve.
