Curious and waiting to be inspired and moved, are the students you will find in my classroom this year. These are students who are curious about learning, students who are waiting to be inspired, students who have a desire explore the unknown. Unfortunately, many of my students who will be in my class this year do not get to experience many new things, unless it is provided by the school. These students come from hard working households that support their family by working multiple jobs.
Maya Angelou said it best, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” As their teacher, I want to provide my students with meaningful experiences to help them grow, not only intellectually or mentally, but as human beings.
I believe in the importance of teaching students values that go beyond the textbooks and tests and more along the lines of learning how to be a human being.
My Project
I personally started doing yoga about a year ago to help me manage with the daily stress of being a teacher. Since then I have learned many techniques to help me manage stress, learned the importance of being present, but most of all, how to turn negative experiences into positive ones. Because of my own personal experience, I hope to pass on the same experience to students, as they too might be facing some unknown challenges or stress in their lives, and yoga might be the answer for some of them.
Every year, students make a difference in my life, and I hope through yoga, I can make a difference in theirs.
By having access to yoga mats, students will be able to successful gain confidence in their physical strength and mental strength. Every week for 45 minutes, our yoga instructor will provide curriculum that covers National and California P.E. standards as well as many needs for Social Emotional Learning.
Through yoga, I know students will gain a better understanding of themselves, their bodies, and find a connection between themselves and the world. Please help bring yoga into our classroom and into the lives of my students.
