My students need to have flexible seating because of their disabilities. Some prefer to stand and do work (standing desk and gel mat) while others need a comfy chair to sit in.
My students have mild to moderate disabilities that they never let hold them back. They understand that they are unique and have individual strengths. My students are dreamers and doers. They are almost adults (high school) but come from backgrounds where they had to grow up much too quickly. Some are in Foster Care, some have experienced trauma, others have been bullied and ridiculed for the things that make them different.
One thing that they all have in common is my classroom is their safe space.
In order to create an environment where they can thrive as the individuals they are.
My Project
My students all have learning and physical disabilities. Sitting in the same classroom for 100 minutes makes it difficult to focus. Let alone if you are a student with a learning disability. Flexible seating offers students options so that they can best engage in the classroom.
Flexible Seating gives students a chance to succeed by providing options that meet their needs.
A student with ADHD will often do better when they can stand and work (Standing Desk and gel Mat). While students with a specific learning disability may just need to have access to a comfortable chair (rolling cushioned chairs) to do their best.
