My Students

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things technologically current and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.

My students like to build, design, and program even though they are technically and technologically "disadvantaged".

Many of them are being raised in single parent households and receive a free lunch based on their socioeconomic status. These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may not provide them with the life experiences many of us see as "typical". I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our most "disadvantaged" learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.

My Project

My students need computers that are solely used for their programming of LEGO robotics. These laptops will be stored in the LEGO classroom and used to assist students in their designing, constructing and programming of their most creative LEGO innovations.

Currently, our classroom doesn't have enough computers for all students to have access to the programming software.

We have to share computers with another classroom which limits the disc space and unfortunately we lose some programs to accidental deleting. Programming needs its own memory space and time to "trial and error" understanding of functions. These machines will allow my students to effectively stretch their technological minds.
