Zoo Animal Outreach Vistor

My students need representatives from the Ft. Worth Zoo to bring small animals with him/ her and discuss the needs, habitats, etc. of the animals to our students.

My Students

Our students are very motivated learners. We are a STEM school that also has a Dual Language program. Our population is very diverse - both racially and economically. We try to provide as many hands-on and real world applications and experiences for them to enhance their learning. These students are engineers who often think outside of the box and use all their prior knowledge and experiences to excel. We have about 100 second graders at C. Elementary this school year.

My Project

Our students will benefit from this amazing up close and personal encounter with small zoo animals which will allow the students to better understand the focus of our animal unit and allow them to ask questions of a zoo keeper. They will be completing research projects on animals and their habitats. They will then create models of the animals using Lego Wedo Robotics and also a model of their habitats. Having the encounter with the animals gives them hands on real schema about the animals they will be creating models of. This experience in the past has really made a difference in making this project have real meaning to the children.
