The students at my school are talented boys and girls who have to survive outside forces in order to be successful. There is a lot of gang activity, gun firing, and many family members living in small quarters. We are in one of the larger districts in Northern California, but we are poverty stricken and have low test scores due to life circumstances getting in the way. I want to give my 5th Grade students the best possible education experience I can give. Due to limited resources, at times it is difficult to do what we need. I can only buy so much without breaking my own bank. Even though the community is in a rough area, parents do their best to support us and their children. We have over 20 different languages spoken at our school. The majority of our population is African American students and Mexican American students. We are fortunate to have such a wealth of cultures at our school site.
