Our community is racially and ethnically diverse. We also have a wide expanse of socio-economic levels and needs as well as an ever changing student population. With our melting pot of cultures and backgrounds, students are eager to learn, share, and develop empathy for others.
We are finding that the interests and the reading skills of our student population have changed dramatically.
Hopefully we can expand our selection to more closely match their abilities as well as titles they are wanting to check out.
My Project
Our students came to us this year with different interests and reading levels. Their time away from structured classroom instruction has really affected their reading level as well as their emotional growth. It is as though time stopped when the pandemic started and isolation began.
Many of our students are asking for the books that they normally would have read at their elementary schools.
We are hoping that by offering some of their old favorites it will bring a sense of comfort and familiarity from which they can learn and grow.
