Building Resilience by Strengthening Relationships With Play!
Help me give my students an opportunity to effectively express themselves by increasing self-esteem and improving coping skills while engaging in positive interactions with peers and adults through play.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 5th – 8th grade boys and girls that are extremely bright and motivated towards change. Many have experienced a multitude of generational trauma but continue to show resilience despite racial inequality. They are reaching for social, emotional and psychological overall well-being and stability. They yearn for bright futures as they stand on the cusp of young adulthood. Many of them have struggled with financial difficulties, homelessness, and other social/emotional abuse that have been the cause previous trauma.
My phenomenal students have adapted to uncomfortable living environments yet these amazing students continue to strive towards academic excellence.
These young adults are learning to persevere while working hard to balance school and outside life.
My Project
Utilizing the requested therapeutic games, stress thumb balls, calming sounds, and positive tangible reinforcements would allow for students to break down social barriers by engaging in open dialogue with other peers and adults during counseling. By feeling relaxed and supported by peers and adults, our phenomenal students have a chance to embrace who they are by having an opportunity to openly express themselves in a safe environment.
Student's often find it easier to interact among peers when games and positive reinforcements are incorporated.
The impact of decreasing emotional instability in trauma student’s experiences can change the course of their life.
