My Students

My school is racially, ethnically and economically diverse. Our model of teaching is connected with EL Education (Expeditionary Learning). This means that staff within grade level teams and across the grades create Learning Expeditions that integrate content from different courses. We often have students collaborate across grade levels as well.

Many of my students are first or second generation immigrants from around the world.

This is why developing 21st century skills is so important to my students' future success. Having this experience and expertise will equip them for the world of college, career and citizenship.

My Project

This project will allow me to have students using coding to solve problems with small self-contained Edison Robots. I am hoping to purchase Edison V2.0 to replace my current obsolete Edison V1.0 robots. The last two years my engineering classes have completed their robotic unit fully virtually.

Seeing a robot acting based on the instructions from code makes coding real for students.

Now that we have returned to in-person learning I would like to have real robots for students to write code for. Edison Robots allow we to offer different levels of challenge from drag and drop programming to using Python. We can also use the 3D printers and laser cutter in my classroom to modify and improve our robots.
