My Students

Our students are very diverse, yet in some ways, they are very much alike. They love to read and they love to socialize! Especially being “tweens,” the isolation of distance learning has taken a toll on many of them both emotionally and academically. Because of this, I have teamed up with my Principal and English Language Arts Leader to create an experience we can all share together.

We would like to engage in a Community Read - One School One Book - with the students, staff, and families of Winman.

My Project

We have chosen the novel, The Unteachables by Gordon Korman, and plan to order 700 copies of the book and we will have the option for 200 to have access to the audiobook for those who may find the text difficult or need this accommodation. This novel is a fun, heartwarming story that will appeal to our students and families.

This will encourage unity by all of us engaging in the same book, as well as kicking off the school year having had a common experience and sharing a piece of literature.

Over the summer, we will continue to check-in together for discussions through Google Meet, and at the start of the new school year, we will engage in book talks and celebrate as a larger unified community. We believe this particular book will have lasting effects on the entire community around kindness, teamwork, and resilience--as well as ignite the spirit of learning!
