Beaucoup de Books: Help Our Students Learn French. Merci!
Help me give my students much needed French-language books. I have beginner picture books and intermediate chapter books. I also have a variety of short-story books that will help students reach the next level in French.
At our school, we have a diverse group of students. However, race plays a very small role in their interactions with one another nor does it affect their interests. The students get along harmoniously regardless of their race, and they share many of the same passions. It truly amazes me that I get to work in such a diverse yet peaceful school full of intelligent, wonderful students.
Our diversity is our strength.
No one race has the majority at our school, and our students work together as one community to do our best in everything we do. We may not have the top scores in the district, but we win many awards in academia, sports, and in the arts. There is much talent among the student, and that talent gets cultivated here. The time that students spend here will stay in their memories for years to come.
My Project
We have a very active Foreign Langauge Program, but we have very few foreign-language books for students to read. While I have been able to curate a small Spanish-language book collection for our media center, I have no French-language books.
My goal is to curate a French-language book collection that will model spelling and grammar which speaking and listening can't show concretely.
Research shows that students who read for pleasure are pushed to the next level in their foreign language skills. These books are necessary for students to become fluent in a new language.
Our French teacher has always been good about bringing his students to the Media Center to check out books. I would love for him to bring his students to the media center so that they could actually check out French-language books.
