My Students

Our students come from varied ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. This fosters a rich, well-rounded collaborative learning experience. When they work together in the science lab, they share ideas, value everyone's contribution, and collaborate to learn together.

Our students are curious explorers.

In the science lab, they are always interested in finding out about the world around them. Their curiosity does not end with just finding out, though, they want to find out the reasons why different things happen. When presented with a phenomenon, they eagerly engage on the path to 'figure it out.'

Students' efforts to 'figure it out' become visible on a daily basis as they make observations, develop models, construct explanations, make claims, and support their claims with evidence from their lab explorations. They are definitely in a science internship at each grade level and with each different science topic.

My Project

Third-grade students will shortly begin investigating magnets. They are enthusiastic learners who are eager to explore. The Magnet Levitation kits in this Donor's Choose request include materials for varied experiences with magnets. Additionally, there is an engineering activity that directly connects to their science learning.

The engineering activities in the kits provide third graders the opportunity to more deeply explore the engineering design process as they construct their maglev trains and test how they work.

Since maglev trains are not science-fiction, we will be able to make connections for students to see science and engineering in the real world.
