Especially in a Title 1 school, art class allows students to increase their quality of life through exposure to the arts and tangible learning of a variety of subjects. For most of our students this might be their only opportunity to experience the love of art. The art classroom is an exciting place to play with color and different mediums and to experiment with a new way of seeing. It is an honor that we are given the opportunity to reach beyond these students’ current sphere of understanding through the sparking of their imagination within an endless world of creative possibilities.

My Project
Students will be able to have an online art gallery and keep their masterpieces in a sharable digital portfolio! They will be encouraged to write an artist statement to share about the creative process. With additional iPads and art media, students can explore the digital arts. They will be able to have digital field trips with Google Earth to learn about geography and cultures.
Students will have the ability to submit artwork, post artist statements, constructively comment on peer galleries, and monitor their own progress through their personal online gallery.
The advantage of digital portfolios is that a student can share their art with family members, and both teachers and students can actively engage in the online art gallery activities. Our large school is close to one thousand students, so digitizing some of our work will also help lighten the load of the art teacher. The teachers have tools to monitor, assess, and provide feedback on artwork online. Tablets are small in size which is ideal in our in our wonderful but small portable classroom.
