My students are driven, brilliant and motivated. They have desires to explore their ever changing community in new and technologically advanced ways. They want to learn more about themselves and others through the new Health curriculum that was brought into their school district. These students work well in small enrichment groups where they are able to better represent themselves through project and group based learning. Students are working within a pilot curriculum for Health Education to learn more about themselves, each other and their community.
My students desire hands on projects over written work to show their knowledge and understanding of topics.
They have a profound interest in using technology. Today's classroom is simply not set up for these new learners. Topics include Health, Nutrition, Drugs and Alcohol, Emotional/Mental Health, Consumer Health as well as First Aid and CPR. Students will be working on growth and development as well as exploring the reproductive health of both males and females. This group of students would like to use their new technology to push the envelope when it comes to First Aid, CPR and Safety practices.
My Project
These materials will help complete our classroom First Aid and CPR supply list. The students in my class want to use a life size skeleton instead of a paper model to work on bone and skeletal anatomy that will better prepare them for our First Aid and CPR unit. The CPR and First Aid kit will complete our classroom set of CPR manikins and provide the students with lifelike forms to practice on.
In our class we have noticed that using life-like materials have shown an increase in student growth and attention span.
Our hope is for our students to be able to successfully help in emergency situations within their local community as well as become prepared for possible accidents in the future. These resources have become a necessary part of our curriculum here in Manchester.
