My Students

I am the librarian at a Pre-K through 5th grade school, whose students are a diverse group of critical thinkers. Our school is unique because students are given ample time to explore their interests through weekly enrichment periods. My library has a strong focus on integrating literacy, technology, and creativity to develop 21st century skills. I also teach an after school Maker Club focused on providing various STEAM-based opportunities that encourage students to think outside of the box. My students enjoy exploring, creating, and problem solving, and I am constantly on the lookout for new ways to help them develop a lifelong love of learning.

My Project

These Bloxels kits would allow me to teach an entire class of students how to make their own video games. Bloxels combines tactile learning with digital problem solving and would help me incorporate my students' interest in technology into the storytelling process.

Moreover, having eight kits would provide me with the opportunity to teach my students collaborative skills while still giving every student a chance to customize their own video game.

The kits would be used with my library classes, my after school Maker Club, and during open Makerspace time. They would make the process of video game creation more accessible for students who might be intimidated by programming something from scratch.
