Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My athletes walk into the tennis courts every day full of life, ready to practice, and excited for the day's drills and games. I often pass by the tennis courts on Saturdays and I'll see a big chunk of my athletes practicing.
I teach at a Title I school in Texas where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Their parents focus on the essentials.
We are lucky because our athletic department has provided us with the essentials for our program. Despite many financial hardships, my athletes are always eager to practice and do their best. I want my athletes to be able to enjoy the game of tennis without having to worry about the financial aspect. This beautiful game should be enjoyed by everyone.
My Project
As our sport's popularity continues to grow in our High School our budget doesn't. Most of our budget is allocated to providing students with rackets. We are financially unable to purchase some essential equipment such as tennis balls and cones.
Tennis should be a sport for everyone.
Other schools allocate their resources to purchasing tennis balls, for us since our students have a very low income we must help them out by purchasing the tennis rackets.
My students are passionate about this sport, but without practice equipment, we can't accomplish our goals. The tennis balls will give my team the ability to practice throughout the entire season. I want to build a team and show them they can succeed despite being financially challenged.
