For Valentine's Day, We Would Love Some New Dictionaries!
My students need new Oxford Dictionaries to replace our ten year old copies which have begun to fall apart. These dictionaries are not only more current, but are also more "collegiate" in nature than our copies.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
When students first enter our school, they are scared. They don't know each other (as we pull students from several different junior highs) and they aren't sure that they are ready for the challenge of earning two degrees at one time. By the time they leave us, they are confident scholars, ready to tackle the challenges of university life as they begin to achieve their dreams. Our school is only nine years old and already our graduates are elementary teachers, master's degree candidates, budding bankers, and world travelers.
Teaching here is a joy; as a freshman instructor, I take the first steps with our students as they set out on their journey.
They have nebulous, half-formed dreams and it is our job to help them develop the tools that will allow them to achieve those far-off ambitions. Many of our students live in poverty and/or come from families where academic success is a foreign concept. It is wonderful to see our kids' successes begin to impact their families. Through rigorous reading and writing units, we begin to prepare for college and the new lives that higher education to bring to their communities.
My Project
When our school opened nine years ago, we purchased cheap, basic dictionaries for our classrooms - something just good enough to get us started! Nine years later and we're still using these same reference materials. Unfortunately, many of them are "giving up the ghost"; covers are falling off, pages are coming out, and many newer words can't be found in these older reference books.
My students are college bound; they need collegiate materials.
I would like to replace some of my more decrepit dictionaries with Oxford Dictionaries. I want my kids to get used to using collegiate level references before they begin their college classes next year.
