I love it when my students say, "Daddy, what do we ...sorry, I mean Mr. Agner..." I tell the kids that while they are at school, I am like their dad. I want the best for them, and I want to see how much I can help them grow before getting to 2nd grade. I have 4 sons of my own and count it as a compliment any time a child calls me daddy. My kids at school make up a fantastic class. Each one has their own personality, talents, strengths, and needs. I try to use everything I have to help them grow, but the struggle is always finding what I need to help each individual, as well as the class, to grow as much as possible.
Every child has the potential to be successful.
The trick is finding the right tools to get them there.
My Project
iPads are fantastic for first grade. With a click and a swipe, they're logged in and ready to go. I am trying to get enough headphones and iPads to create learning stations for my kids to work with some really great apps. Prodigy and ABC Mouse are two of the programs that I use that grow in difficulty as they kids learn.
Using technology to capture a kid's imagination is a key to learning.
Any time that you can create excitement and fun, causes the learning process to become more effective.
My use of iPads with the class enables me to foster that love of learning with educational tools that make learning fun. Being able to incorporate the iPads into learning centers is another way to keep the kids focused on learning and gives me more time for one on one with the kids who need it most.
