As a teacher, I possess a growth mindset to train my student's brain for the 21st-century job, not the 19th-century setting, seating in rows=assembly line, mindset. We would like our students to develop critical problem-solving skills, with the benefits of comfort, choice, community, collaboration through flexible seating.
21st-century classrooms = 21st-century jobs, students should learn to accord the 21st-century design, by sitting around a table and collaborating with other peers to problem solve.
I have been teaching math for many years as a result had the opportunity to teach a variety of students. Because some students struggle in math thus really needs that extra help. In a classroom that consists of 30 students, there are many learning styles and levels. Collaborating helps all students learn, in fact, it gives advanced students the opportunity to communicate and explain their math ideas. For average students, it helps them gain a deeper understanding of math and for struggling students, all the above will help. They get to share their problem-solving skill, their math struggles also their thinking process.
My Project
Flexible seating has many benefits for students, such as control of their environment, a movement like fidgeting, also they learn to share space and supplies with other students. A traditional desk can be organized in many ways, however, tables give students a choice of comfort and community. So, Just imagine a student walking into a math classroom and they have tables and stools to choose from.
Flexible Seating, students love choices and teachers love engaged students.
They are given the opportunity to sit alone or with other students. Somedays middle school students want to interact at the same time some days they don't want to be bothered. So, when they walk into my classroom with flexible seating, they have choices and stay calm. As a result, students can feel comfortable, stronger social skills and they are able to focus better in a classroom.
