Help me give my students a way to process their emotions when they are feeling overwhelmed in their school day so they can get back to learning after going to a "sensory zone" to work out their frustrations.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The majority of students at my school come from low income single-parent households. Some of these students are either being raised by their grandparents, living with other families that are not related to them or live in temporary housing. They have to deal with not having enough food to eat. A small percentage of students come from group homes. The students I work with have many personal challenges outside of having to learn at school. They have to learn to deal with their personal issues as well as learning how to read, write and add and subtract. So teaching becomes more that just teaching, many of these students have social and emotional issues as well. Getting them to their academic grade level as well as support and improve their social and emotional well being is more and more the challenge I work with on a daily basis.
My Project
These materials will help get my students back on track when they have a set back. A safe place or "sensory zone" is a place where my students can go and work out their frustrations when they feel overwhelmed from something that happens in their day at school or trauma in their daily lives. Being able to draw, build, or simply have sensory input can help students deal with their frustrations. Having a place where students can go in my classroom, helps me as a teacher because I can continue teaching and not have to stop and deal with behavior issues. I can simply send my student to the Sensory Zone, they can work out their problem, have a cooling off period and then come back and be ready to learn. This will help them grow emotionally as an individual knowing they have worked out their problem and are able to move on with their day. Having a sense of accomplishment doesn't hurt either.
