My Students

I work with an academically diverse group of students. Each student has their own needs that need to be met to make them successful, but they all benefit from one thing; movement. I work with student from sixth grade up to eighth grade and they are full of energy. Often times that energy can distract from the tasks at hand. Giving the students hands-on opportunities provides them an opportunity to learn through doing. It gives them the responsibility to plan and implement, putting them in control of their education.

My Project

Often times students question, "Why do we need to know this?". Well, not anymore. Through the process of completing the kits with their classmates, every student will have a profound and pervasive understanding of all the ways math and science are integrated in the "real world".

The interactive, collaborative, and challenge based kits allow the students to apply and extend knowledge and understanding cultivated in the classroom.

Being able to build things like catapults and gliders provides a fun way to apply math and science standards and also gives students a chance to build problem solving and collaboration skills. This experience can provide a guide to possible career interest as well as an insight into student strengths.
